April 16, 2006 - Graduation Ceremonies and 15th
Anniversary Celebration
On Sunday, April 16, 2006,
the First Church of Evangelical Faith Christians of Ternopil City was the
site of the graduation ceremony for the student graduates of Ternopil
Biblical Seminary. The church leadership kindly granted the use of their
church to hold this celebration. This graduation was truly festive because
this year is the 15th since the Seminary was founded. In January
1991 the first lectures began, and they were held in this particular church.
Fourteen students completed the two-year Zaochno (Extension)
form of study at the Faculty of Christian Ministry. Among them there are
nine students who have a desire to continue their education to achieve a
Bachelor’s degree.
The following people were invited to this graduation:
Ternopil Regional Bishop, members of the provincial executive, pastors of
churches to which the graduates belong; wives of the pastors and the
students; as well as the Rector of Chernivtsi Biblical Seminary. Katrina
Humeniuk, Vice-President of the Seminary was also present.
We invited various young people and students to participate
by presenting vocal numbers: a male singing group (including our graduate,
Vitaliy Teper) from the church on 4 Dovzhenka St.; a group from Chortkiv
church, which included our graduate Oleh Kushnir; and Bogdana Hayda (a
graduate) and her friend.
The
graduation exercises started at 5:00 p.m. with prayer. After the prayer a
brief video-speech of the President and founder of the Seminary, Jack Hunka,
was shown. He remembered how this educational institution began, and also
shared some facts from the 15-year history.
The
following people also spoke: Katrina Humeniuk, Vice-President of Biblical
Seminaries Ukraine; Fedir Verbitsky, Co-Founder; Vitaliy Varenytsya, Rector;
Petro Skakun, Coordinator of Christian Education for Ternopil for the
Pentecostal Union of Ukraine; Vasyl Malyk, Rector of Chernivtsi Biblical
Seminary; Oleh Sagan, Pastor of the church “Christ for All” from Chortkiv
City. Ihor Repeta, Dean of the Christian Ministry Faculty and Ihor Kovyk,
Student Dean also spoke briefly.
Representing the student graduates, Stepan Yuzyuk, the class
president, spoke. He is the pastor of the church in the village of Surazh,
in Shumsk Region. He said, “When I came to study, I had a desire to get to
know God better, and during all the time of studying I absorbed biblical
knowledge from our teachers. Now I can say that I have received some
knowledge and become closer to the Lord. These steps were not easy,
especially at the beginning. Seminary employees have a good tradition: they
pray for the students. Through their prayers and through the teachers each
time I received new strength and rejoiced while going home. On behalf of the
whole group of graduates I want to say “thank you” for the knowledge we have
received. We also thank God that there is such an educational institution in
our region as Ternopil Biblical Seminary. Now the time has come when we will
be giving our people the knowledge we received.”
All the speeches were a source of encouragement to work for
the Lord. Everyone who spoke emphasized the importance of studying in
Biblical Institutions.
Students
received diplomas and certificates, as well as flowers
and books as gifts. Wives of students received honorable diplomas for being
a support to their husbands while they studied. After diplomas and
certificates had been handed out, the Regional Bishop Volodymyr Tereschenko
prayed for the graduates.
